WHY TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING WON'T GET LUONGO.
1. SALARY
Luongo has a $5,333,333 contract for the next 10 years and if traded would lower Tampa's salary cap. Tampa needs the cap to raise many rising talents and their draft selection contracts.
2. HARD TO BE TRADED
With a huge contract many think a trade involving captain Vinny Lecavlier would be in play but I believe it isn't possible. Maybe if this trade was completed at the deadline it would be different. This could have sent LUONGO & HODGSON to Tampa for exchange for LECAVLIER and a second round pick.
3. AGE
At 33 he is still an elite goaltender but will not improve a lot he has also not been a great goalie in playoffs and if Tampa wants a long playoff run I would suggest a different goalie.
4. ALL OF THE ABOVE
There are many goalies available this offseason such as Bernier who have smaller salary are younger and easier to be traded.
